An Entryway

So I should mention that I am moving in about a year, I have no idea where to, and all I can do is dream up a design for basic rooms that I might find in a new apartment. How big rooms are and where windows will be is up for grabs of course, but I still like to design little arrangements of furniture that will do nicely.

Here's my first little quick photoshop of the front door area. And yes I know it looks quite big, that's because I've skewed the perspective part so it's easy to see. I'm sure the room will be much smaller and more compressed together.

And yes I know the colors are very bright, I'm sure the real thing will be much more toned down but I still want happy warm colors. The wall color could be anything warm, not necessarily baby pink, and I wouldn't mind a nice wallpaper. So we have little cubes (there are some cubes found here but I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there and in America) that will be a shoe storage area underneath (I never have shoes worn in my house, keeps it much cleaner), and on top it can be a mail table and small bookshelf. Near that is a coat and leash rack (for my future dog), and a framed round mirror to check your look before you leave the house. I'd like a pretty stripey round rug to offset the angularity of the cubes. And then on the other side, I'd like to make the planter bench from the book I have, Handmade Modern. Here's their version from the book:

I'd might like to have a short flowering plant but I love their rainbow stripe fabric. Anyway, more rooms coming later!

Pink Xmas Tree!

It's no secret that I love pink things. Not always, but as of recent I acquired pink bedding and pink curtains to go with that. So I'm glad that I found a link at the Deco Detective's blog...this site here. A site selling all pink home supplies. And while it is in the UK, I don't think it's too much of a sacrifice to pay for the shipping.

My favorite thing I saw was this awesome item:

I've always wanted a white xmas tree but this is even better! An xmas tree resembling Gwen Stefani's wedding dress! I absolutely want this. Instead of strings of tinsle, a few pink maribou feather boa's from JoAnn Fabrics would loop nicely around it. That, with some rainbow twinkle lights...perfect. I want this to be my tree!

Fornasetti Wallpaper

I just found this wallpaper thanks to an entry in Casapinka talking about it...

And while I don't think that I'd put this in my house, it's still friggin' awesome (and eccentric!) Apparently there's a bathroom at Rhode Island School of Design done in this. I'm not a big wallpaper person but this is a nice style to keep in mind. :)

Kitchen Love

A couple kitchen items I'd like to keep in mind:

First, these salt and pepper shakers. I first saw these at a wedding store when I was getting fitted for my graduation dress and thought they were the cutest thing ever.

I love the non-decript shaker faces. Yes.

And secondly these lovely goth silhouette plates. I wish they were all people. I wouldn't mind making my own versions of these though.

LoveSac

I am shamelessly in love with the idea of a LoveSac. When I was a kid I remember sleeping in a giant round floor pillow at a friends house and I've always loved the idea of having one myself. And the romantic notion of sharing these lovely comforting womb-like places to sink into with your sweetie is causing me unbearable bits of envy. They're so expensive but I can't bring myself to care.

I've especially had my eye on this one, though this one is their square one, and in furry white.

It may look like nothing special but it's about the size of a day bed. I imagine putting it in front of my couch in the living room, to flop down on with a book or the laptop, a place for my pets to jump on on occasion (as long as they're not muddy, oh god expensive white fabric), but of course the main reason, to be a LOVEsac. Har har cry. I want one.

Although this company offers a much less pricey version...they don't sell a white one though. I'd get the flat one, called the "Comfy Pad":

Probably less quality though, it seems.

Lighting

Ah, lighting. I have seen so many delicious kinds of lighting in the past few days that I need to post a few.

First, the solar power LED lanterns from the Elsewares shop:

While it's marketed as an outdoor latern it would be lovely to carry into the bedroom for some nice cuddle lighting. Specially the blue, the Moon Jar.

Also, feathered lights.

Beautiful, whimsical, and possible fire hazard? I'd love to be able to craft a hack version as long as it wasn't dangerous. It would look lovely with blue feathers.

And the winged lightbulb by Ingo Maurer (and apparently there's a distribution place for me to visit in Dallas):

Absolutely adorable. And yet another thing to perhaps imitate in craft. This particular lamp is touch activated, and while I could never do something like that, at least attacthing wings to a lightbulb couldn't be that tricky. Getting it to work and not be a fire hazard would be nice too, though cute nonfunctional art, little flying lightbulbs on strings over a work desk, would be quite nice too. To represent the unlit ideas I have yet to catch.

This blog will serve as a note-taking reminder of things I'm looking for in homestyle, a scrapbook I can look back on anytime to help me build the perfect nest, so to say.

For my own reference, here are some words that might describe the kind of things I'd say about my style taste:

eccentric (but of course)

colorful (purples, lime greens, robin's egg blues, candy pink)

modern (as in the furniture style)
comfort
cozy
appealing (in the way we use it in animation, that would be, specific shapes appealing to the eye, not a specifcally subjective term)
celestial

earth-friendly

curious
fairy tale
sensual

and descriptors of what I would like to avoid:

traditional
antique
rustic
delicate
primary colors (like christmas red or green at it's dullest hunter shade)

I like things with a twist, if it's old then it needs to be clever, remodeled for our way of thinking now. I want the style to be suprising, loving. The seating and bedding to be the softest, most sink down and never get up comfortable you can experience. I want delicious cool colors with a touch of warmth and spice. I want visual interest and delicious mood lighting. Sparkles and shine. Fluff. I want character art hanging all over the walls, color all over the room, and shelving full of books filled with inspiring photos and art (I've got quite a book collection, just where to put them?) I want there to be a touch of romance, as if you were to come upon the room and be jealous that you couldn't be there alone with your lover. I want there to be a secret narrative.

And oh yea, it should probably be pet friendly. ;)
